Got Ears?

Many years ago the milk industry began an add campaign simply asking the question, "Got Milk?"  It implied that if you did not have milk that you were out of the loop!   In an effort to boost sales, this ad quickly caught on.  It is a catchy question and is still used as a slogan today.  Jesus used the same technique 2000 years ago in an effort to get our attention.  His repeated words, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear," implied that we will miss something that we desperately need if we are not listening!

The Bible asks us in several places if we have "ears to hear."  Ears to hear what?  Unless someone has a hearing impairment, they are hearing thousands of things every day!  We hear adds on the TV and radio.  We hear conversations that include the opinions of others.  We hear good news and bad news.  We hear instructions at work and we hear co-workers complaining. The list is endless of what we "hear" every day.  There are over 8 billion people on the earth and everyone has a different opinion!   However, the Bible asks a simple question...are we hearing the voice of the Lord?

Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing and that hearing comes by the Word of God. The Greek word for "Word' in that scripture is rhema (the spoken, personal word of God) .  It is only when you "hear" God's personal word to you that faith can begin!  It has to go beyond what Mom hears or what your Pastor hears.  The question is, Do you Hear?  Do you value God's voice in your life?  Do you value His written word?  Do you value the voice of the Holy Spirit in your heart?

Mark 4:24 says, Take heed what you hear. With the same measure you use, it will measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given.  Jesus simply says here that if we do not value and honor the voice of God in our lives and hearts by hearing and obeying, we cannot expect to hear more from Him!  Revelation 3:22 says "he that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

As believers and "sheep" in the GOOD Shepherd's pasture we should:
1) Value the voice of the Lord above any other voice!
2) Listen to the voice of the Lord above any other voice!
3) Follow and obey the voice of the Lord above any other voice!

Someone may read this and say, "Oh what a simple word, I need some meat...give me some meat...I want to go deep!"  I like to say it this way:  Meat is not hard to understand, it's just harder to chew and swallow than milk!

One of the greatest things I have noticed as a Pastor is the fact that so may "Christians" really don't want to hear from God;  and when they do hear from Him, they don't want to obey!  Jesus said in John 4:32-34, I have meat to eat that ye know not of...My meat is to DO the will of Him that sent me!  I believe you are ready to hear and follow His voice!  Let's read His Word, spend time in prayer, value the voice of the Lord and then obey!  He's the answer!  Stop looking to the world, the devil and your own flesh for answers they don't have!  Got Ears?  Let's listen and obey.
